Since 1997, we have partnered with the Carnival Foundation to implement the Carnival Kids program at underserved elementary schools throughout Miami-Dade County. Educating more than 6,000 fourth-grade and fifth-grade children about animal and life science, the program is comprised of a series of outreach programs featuring live animals and biological artifacts as well as field trips to Zoo Miami and Everglades National Park. For many students, Carnival Kids offers them their first opportunity to visit the zoo as well as providing them with unforgettable opportunities to see some of the world's most amazing and threatened wildlife, first-hand. It is our objective that participants leave the program with an increased sense of stewardship and respect for all living creatures and the environment.

For the 2019-2020 school year, Publix Super Markets Charities is funding a STEM educational outreach program to public schools in Broward County. This partnership provides an opportunity for students to tackle a real life case scenario of creating an enrichment for one of Zoo Miami's animal ambassadors. Exercising their critical thinking skills, students work to design the best enrichment to provide physical or mental exercise for a selected animal. The best designs even get field tested at the zoo by the animal ambassadors to see if it worked with video provided to the students allowing them to see if their design was used with its intended purpose!
