Zoo Miami Foundation

Zoo Miami Foundation (ZMF), formerly Zoological Society of Florida, is the non-profit support organization for Zoo Miami Founded in 1956. We are dedicated to sustaining Zoo Miami through membership and education programs, and strategic philanthropic initiatives.

Through the generosity of individuals, corporation, and foundations, ZMF operates a robust education program, supports vital conservation initiatives, and supplements key capital projects that bolster animal welfare and care at Zoo Miami. With one of the largest membership bases in South Florida, Zoo Miami Foundation has made a significant impact connecting with and educating the South Florida community about wildlife and conservation.

Our education program includes a volunteer core of more than 400 youth and adult volunteers that contribute nearly 50,000 hours and engage nearly half a million people annually. Throughout the years, Zoo Miami Foundation has also been a key driver of getting our community involved with nature and conservation through exciting opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Nature Play has attracted hundreds of South Floridians to experience our local and national parks through outdoor sports and camping adventures.
  • Thousands of children age 4 – 12 have had the opportunity to experience our animals up close and personal through Zoo camp.
  • Our Wild Tales speaker series going strong for the past three years have allowed the community to be part of local and global conservation bringing world renowned speakers from India, Brazil, Zimbabwe and of course our own Ron Magill from South Florida!
  • Over 150 Conservation Teen Scientists support school classroom lessons with various environmental science programs, impacting 15,000 students annually.

With over 50 years of success working with Zoo Miami and the South Florida community, Zoo Miami Foundation strives for performance excellence, enriching our members experience at the Zoo, connecting with our community through education and conservation and stewardship of our donors.

Today, Zoo Miami Foundation is one of the largest membership organizations in South Florida. Its Board of Directors includes community leaders in Miami-Dade and Broward counties who are committed to the education, conservation and recreation goals of Zoo Miami. While Miami-Dade County operates and maintains the Zoo, Zoo Miami Foundation, backed by its strong membership, supports Zoo Miami's programs and enhancements.

The Zoo Miami Foundation fosters community pride and involvement with Zoo Miami and secures financial support for the zoo.
